To say that Riley is exuberant in all things would greatly undersell her zeal for life.  She has a REALLY big motor and she likes to hold the throttle wide open.  While Riley can be a very personable dog in the home (she loves spending “couch-time” with our sons) it is in the field and marsh where you can begin to appreciate all of her talents.  She has a very strong nose propelled by a most athletic and aggressive field search.  She hits thick cover hard, uses the wind wisely, and consistently demonstrates an intelligent and productive search.  She is a powerful swimmer in the water, and no difficulty on the thickest cat-tale sloughs.  I believe she carries her mother’s (Sternjager’s Safe Return—”Turner”) water-love as Riley can not pass near a pond without a quick dip.  Everyone that sees Riley comments on her strong resemblance to her sire, Int Ch VC Sharpshooters Let 'Er Rip (“Rip”).  I would like to thank Liz Dyer and Ken Horner of  Double Down GSP for agreeing to pair Turner to their Rip, and I would strongly recommend Rip as a sire for anyone interested in these bloodlines.  Riley’s first full hunting season is going well and at not quite one and half, she is coming in to her own on Kansas pheasants  We will begin Utility Test training this spring.

Riley is a member of a NAVHDA Breeders Award Litter.  That makes, well several for Rip, and it is Turners first.  This litter is our second generation to qualify for a Breeders Award, but if you follow her dams pedigree to Shooting Starr’s Kennel, you could count several more generations. 

 

Riley is named in honor of the brave men and women of the US Army’s 1st Division, who call Ft. Riley home.  We pass the Fort (near Junction City, KS) on our trips to western Kansas, and so far this pup takes to the field with all their intensity and enthusiasm.
